Through the IUC programme, cities and regions across Europe have entered into partnerships on sustainable development with counterparts from around the globe. For a full list of city pairings so far, see the table below:
The Mexican city of Colima is collaborating with Galați, Romania on issues related to the improvement of their waste management practices, social inclusion and urban resilience plans. Both cities have many similarities in terms of size, population, presence of water bodies and seismic activity.
The pairing has carried out two learning exchange visits. Colima drew inspiration from the visits to update its planning processes, transform the city’s urban growth model, improve energy efficiency, and tackle future climate change impacts.
Galați is focused on creating a resilience strategy that includes the prevention and management of natural disasters. The Romanian city is benefitting from Colima’s extensive experience and best practices in the field of resilience.
This city pairing is also working on the improvement of their local participatory processes in urban planning and the collaborative design of public spaces.
