Through the IUC programme, cities and regions across Europe have entered into partnerships on sustainable development with counterparts from around the globe. For a full list of city pairings so far, see the table below:
Sao Leopoldo and Viana do Castelo aim to green their cities through the IUC programme. Specifically, they are focusing their cooperation on developing urban green areas, waste management, water management, enhancing energy efficiency, and establishing business synergies.
Working to deal with waste management they will use an Innovative public procurement, an indicator system for quality management in urban waste, a modelling of operational production service (ISO 9001:2015). It is also important to raise awareness for smart citizens.
Water management is different; they will take advantage of the experiences of public companies in charge of serving both cities, while paying attention to water loses.
Lastly, they want to implement a local plan for energy efficiency in SL. One that is in line with the National Programme for Conservation of the Electric Energy, PROCEL and ALURE programme from the European Commission.
