During the international conference on “Climate Crisis: Action for Tropical Coastal Cities”, which took place in Mumbai (India) on 27-28 February, IUC India released a Financing Manual for Sustainable and Climate Resilient Urban Infrastructure Projects in India.
The manual was jointly released by Mr. Ugo Astuto (EU Ambassador), Mr. Praveen Pardeshi (Municipal Commissioner-Greater Mumbai Municipal Corporation) and Mr. Narinder Nayar (Chairman, Mumbai First). IUC India prepared the manual in consideration of the financing needs of urban local bodies to fund sustainable and climate resilient urban development projects. It was developed following rounds of consultation and discussion with selected local bodies and prospective funding institutions to assess the demand and supply scenarios of different funding mechanisms to support sustainable and climate resilient urban development.
The Financing Manual was further updated in May 2020 in light of the COVID-19 crisis, by adding a section on “Preparing for and responding to emergencies”. The Financing Manual can be accessed by clicking here.
A number of cases studies and other knowledge material produced by IUC India have also become available through the IUC resources database. The case studies focus on the journeys of city pairs throughout the IUC programme, and they highlight the key challenges, learnings and ways forward for the respective cities. Additional material include reports and presentations from IUC India partners including the EU Joint Research Center, TERI, NIUA, and more, all regarding climate and sustainable urbanisation challenges.
