IUC North America supports delegates to the Ecocity World Summit 2019

Can cities be both ecologically healthy and socially just? This question was at the heart of the 2019 Ecocity World Summit, which convened global representatives in Vancouver (Canada).

Attendees and speakers rose to the challenge of digging into difficult topics, demonstrating multiple solutions that are emerging with new leadership arrangements and partnerships. Speakers led attendees to consider ‘spatial justice’ issues; economic approaches that better address human prosperity; and calculations for a grim future if climate change and growth go unchecked; while youth activists inspired action.

IUC North America supported 13 local government staff from three Canadian, one American and four European cities to immerse themselves in these issues and strengthen their networks. IUC delegates used the conference, which included workshops, walking tours and site visits, to gain new ideas and perspectives, while taking advantage of being together to have fruitful conversations and reflect on the work that all IUC cities are doing, and how we can all do better.
