Through their IUC-Japan cooperation, the Youth Council from the City of Turku (Finland) has invited young people in Japan to take part in climate action through video art.

This publication looks back on all that has been accomplished during the IUC programme, with a focus on presenting best practices from across IUC regions that showcase how city-to-city and region-to-region cooperation can be used to foster and support sustainable urban development and the localisation of global goals.

Kyoto (Japan) is committed to climate change mitigation and adaptation. The city works with diverse groups within the municipality, region, and as a part of the larger international community – including as a signatory to the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM) – to meet its climate action targets. Kyoto looks at climate action holistically: it must address a wide variety of sectors, engage diverse local voices, and utilise interventions that are environmentally, socially and economically sustainable.

Frankfurt and Yokohama are focusing on a range of topics as part of their collaboration, each item broadly fitting under the umbrella of “smart cities”. Issues being addressed include energy management, low-carbon transportation, environmental education campaigns and urban-regional cooperation.
