Can cities be both ecologically healthy and socially just? This question is at the heart of the 2019 Ecocity World Summit, which will convene global representatives in Vancouver (Canada).

Attendees and speakers will dig into difficult topics, demonstrating multiple solutions that are emerging with new leadership arrangements and partnerships. Participants will consider ‘spatial justice’ issues; economic approaches that better address human prosperity; and calculations for a grim future if climate change and growth go unchecked.

IUC North America will support 13 local government staff from three Canadian, one American and four European cities to immerse themselves in these issues and strengthen their networks. IUC delegates will use the conference, including workshops, walking tours and site visits, to gain new ideas and perspectives, while taking advantage of being together to have fruitful conversations and reflect on the work that all IUC cities are doing, and how we can all do better.
