Argentine municipalities show their commitment by joining GCoM

Seven Argentine municipalities have joined the Global Covenant of Mayors, displaying their commitment to tackling climate change. The municipalities are: Bell Ville, Caseros, Godoy Cruz, Guaymallén, Monte Buey, Villa General Belgrano and Venado Tuerto.

These municipalities will implement a range of energy efficiency measures in areas such as public lighting and municipal buildings, in addition to taking actions to further incorporate renewable energy at the local level, promote waste reduction and responsible waste management, and enhance sustainable urban mobility. A focus will also be placed on finding the appropriate resources to finance these activities.

As a result of these measures, each municipality aims to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by the following percentage compared to the Business as Usual (BAU) reference scenario by 2030:

  1. Bell Ville: 18% less compared to the BAU scenario
  2. Caseros: 18% less compared to the BAU scenario
  3. Godoy Cruz: 35% less compared to the BAU scenario
  4. Guaymallén: 18% less compared to the BAU scenario
  5. Monte Buey: 18% less compared to the BAU scenario
  6. Villa General Belgrano: 18% less compared to the BAU scenario
  7. Venado Tuerto: 20% less compared to the BAU scenario

These plans have helped to position Argentina as one of the most advanced countries in Latin America for environmental preservation and combating climate change.
