Indian cities ready to cooperate with Europe

Half of the 32 Indian cities approached by the European Union Ambassador to India flagged their interest in working with European local governments to share knowledge on sustainable urban development through the IUC programme. Following a review of the applications, the Indian Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, in cooperation with the European Union, have finalised a list of 12 cities.

The Indian cities indicated a strong interest in exchanging approaches with European local governments on the topic of Smart Cities, in particular improving water and waste management services through smart methods.

A team of urban experts are currently carrying out the task of matching the Indian and European Cities according to their preferences and sector of interest. In early 2018, the IUC team in India will visit the 12 cities to confirm the pairings and to sign the IUC Cooperation Agreement.

The list of pairings will be soon available online.
