GCoM Call - USA

Join the Global Covenant of Mayors GCoM

The European Union's International Urban Cooperation (IUC) initiative in North America (NA) is now offering an open call for US metropolitan areas or regions wishing to join the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy and develop a joint Climate Action Plan.

The Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM) is an international alliance of cities and local governments with a shared long-term vision of promoting and supporting voluntary action to combat climate change and move to an inclusive, just, low emission, resilient society. There are currently 155 members of the GCoM in the US, all of whom have made a commitment to reduce GHG emissions and prepare for the impacts of climate change. The GCoM has been working in the USA with partners such as the Urban Sustainability Directors Network (USDN), CDP, ICLEI USA, C40 and others to help build a program that will help support US cities in their efforts to reduce GHG emissions and prepare for climate change. One key strategic objective which national stakeholders have identified is to help foster more metro-scale or regional ‘Climate Action Plans’, bringing together multiple local government entities and regional organizations to tackle the issues together.

IUC NA will support 4 US metropolitan areas or regions (i.e. groups of local government, geographically connected) in developing a joint Climate Action Plan as described in the Terms of Reference available via the link below. In addition to direct technical support provided by IUC NA, beneficiaries will also have the opportunity to collaborate with the GCoM Secretariat, partner organizations in the US and EU GCoM member cities/regions.
