Sustainable Development Goals

Description

Weinan, the 2nd biggest city of Shaanxi province, is one of the biggest agricultural bases in Northwest China with its main industries including metal processing, food production and processing, energy, chemical industry. Reggio Emilia is a medium-sized city in northern Italy with its worldwide famous educational services for early childhood and IT innovation.
Weinan and Reggio Emilia, based on initial information sharing, are interested in working together on sustainable development issues including the following areas:

  • Technology innovation and transformation
  • Clean renewable energy
  • Sustainable agriculture, food security and quality
  • Urban renewal and regeneration
  • Smart city
  • Early education

Implementation

In July 2018, representatives from Weinan and Reggio Emilia met during the EU-China Regional Policy Seminar in Zhengzhou. Both established initial contact and exchanged ideas on the cooperation possibilities with each other.

In October 2018, a representative from Shaanxi province where Weinan is located joined a high-level NDRC delegation for the mission in the EU, including attendance at the second IUC Global Event and a working visit to Reggio Emilia. Both sides furthered the mutual understanding and explored main areas for cooperation through official meeting and field visits.

*Note: IUC Asia pioneered a 'cluster' approach to city-to-city cooperation. As a result, Urban Cooperation Action Plans (UCAPs) for those cities may refer to a group of cooperating cities, as opposed to merely a pairing.
